Smart, Sincere, and Just a Little Silly
Across my career I’ve found that the right ratio of these three traits can craft grounded and compelling characters of all types. Turn down the smart for a lovable goof, reduce the sincerity for a conniving villain, and remove the silly to find a tragic man struggling against the world. Dramatic or comedic, hero or villain, contemporary or classic; I love nothing more than the process of crafting these characters to tell impactful and engaging stories.
"The Fisher King"
By Richard LaGravenese. A heartfelt confession of love to a wonderful woman who doesn't know just how wonderful she is
"The Nerd"
By Larry Shue. Witness a man who has reached his wits end after a series of...distinct experiences.
“Try Me” from She Loves Me
by Joe Masternoff, Sheldon Harnick, and Jerry Bock. An earnest and fun little ditty, following a young man yearning for a chance to prove himself.
